"I'm willing to do whatever you wish and where you wish to do it, so long as you're not cruel or demeaning."
"I am never either of those things." Wolfe fought not to be insulted by her words and failed. Was that what she thought of him? Some rutting, angry animal who took what he wanted without care for the woman beneath him?
Damn...
"Then I do not see why we cannot agree to these terms. All that is left to discuss is how long you would expect me to be your lover. A month, I thought, would suffice."
Wolfe scoffed. Was she serious in her timeline? "I think not, my lady. A month, and we're only just getting started. If I agree, you shall be my mistress for the remainder of the Season. I shall put off my leaving for Scotland and enjoy bedding you until I travel north."
A rosy hue kissed her cheeks, and her swallow was almost audible. Wolfe inwardly chuckled, enjoying her embarrassment. And so she should be ashamed after asking him to engage in such an agreement. A mistress indeed.
"But that's three months. Surely, that is a little lengthy for such a sum owed."
He shrugged, not caring the least about what she thought on the matter. If he were not getting a thousand pounds, not that he needed it in truth, he would get his money's worth with her. "Those are my terms. You can agree to them, or I shall consult my lawyer on how I can recoup the funds owed to me by your husband in another way. You came up with this absurd idea. The choice is yours."

SNIPPET FROM - DUKE AROUND AND FIND OUT
Damn, she was a pretty lass, and the moment he heard her name, something within him twisted and turned, made him feel like he needed to move faster, think clearer, stop acting the lout all his life, and settle.
But this was a deal. A farce. A way to ensure she married and married well. And he would remain within the ton and ensure that occurred for the delightful Arabella Hall.
How could he allow anything else to befall her? She was agreeable, young, beautiful, and an heiress. What was not to like or deem worthy?
That she spoke to him even knowing the parties he held, having been at one herself, and still thought him worthy as a friend, was not what he thought possible from a debutante.
Perhaps they made the women more open-minded in Brighton.
He pulled her into his arms and reveled in the feel of her silk gown swaying with each step, her trim waist that his hand wanted to caress and squeeze. Her breasts were perfect. She was flawless.
Stop, Leo. She’s not one of your paramours...
Nor could he try to seduce her. She was a maid and would be married soon to a respectable fellow. He could not seduce her even if he thought she would make a fine little bed mate.
“Lord Bankes has been watching us since we returned from the terrace. Do you think perhaps that he may find me intriguing enough to ask me to dance?”
When the dance allowed, Leo glanced toward Lord Bankes, who stood talking to Lord Lupton-Gage. He narrowed his eyes, taking in the young man. He was just a boy, one and twenty, he believed, and from a good family in Hampshire.
“Well, that he is speaking to your guardian is surely a good sign, and I have no information on his lordship that would make me not agree for him to call on you.”
Arabella studied the young man when he swung her about, her eyes widening with interest. “He is handsome, even if he is very young.”
“You’re forgetting that you are young,” he reminded her, watching as she bit her lip in thought. He tore his gaze away, looking over her head and anywhere else but her mouth. He may have to keep his parties to a minimum while he was pretending to court Miss Hall, but he would need to relieve himself sexually and soon if he were to survive the next several weeks.
The lady in his arms was far too alluring, especially for a virginal miss.
Leo, Miss Hall would be as still as a wooden plank in bed.
He almost scoffed at his thoughts. He couldn’t see that as being true. She was bold. He knew that after she arrived at his home, uninvited and tried to steal from him.
No, she would not be meek and mild when passion blazed through her. Indeed not. She would be all fire, adventurous, and a vixen, is what she would be.
“How old are you, my lord?” she asked him, pulling him from thoughts of them tumbling over his bed and enjoying each other for hours.
“I, ahh, I’m eight and twenty. Too old for you, Arabella,” he teased.
His gaze dipped to her lips, and he instinctively pulled her closer. Her breasts brushed his waistcoat and he swallowed. Hard. Damn it, he should not have done that.
Her little startled gasp opened her mouth, and all thoughts of devouring her bombarded his mind.
What the hell was wrong with him? He was to help her. Not seduce her.
She rallied and met his eyes defiantly.
“You’re not too old for me, Leo, but I know you’re also not for me. I know you do not intend to marry. You wish to relish your bachelorhood, so your assistance and friendship are enough for me.”
“So we’re becoming friends then,” he teased, knowing he wanted that most of all, no matter what happened between them.
“I hope we are. I do not have many, and so what a boon to have a future duke as one. I shall make everyone green with envy and give them much to talk about… How a house servant came to be friends with the upper echelon of society.”
“You are no longer a housemaid, Arabella. Do not say such things anymore. You’re a lady, a woman of means, and with connections that place you equal to those in this room. Do not let anyone say otherwise to you.”
“You’re very sweet, do you know that? I did not think you would be the first time we met, but you’re lovely under your hard, roguish exterior.”
