Blog Guest – Karyn Gerrard

Today I’m welcoming fellow Decadent Publishing author, Karyn Gerrard to my blog who’s celebrating the release of her paranormal, contemporary romance, MY VAMPIRE COVER MODEL. Welcome, Karyn! It’s lovely having you here. Now, can you tell us a little about yourself.

A voracious reader, I only started reading romance about six years ago and started writing it at least three years ago. Imagine my shock at having a life-long dream come true. Being published. Goes to show it’s never too late to pursue your dreams. Middle-aged Canadian lady, happily married a long time to my own hero. I never would have been published if he did not encourage me to submit one of my stories.

You’ve celebrated the release of 10 books so far, can you give us a little run down on what you have available and what genres they are in.
  • As of this date, I have a total of 10 releases (3 of them free reads) and 5 upcoming this fall/winter.
  • With Evernight Publishing: Timeless Heart, Timeless Love (both time-travels) Black Lust, Black Desire (both paranormals) The Riding Crop (free read, historical/BDSM)
  • Upcoming with Evernight: Black Heart (book 3 in my paranormal series)
  • With Silver Publishing: Christmas Memories and Heart of Rock (contemps) and 2 Silver Shorts, free read anthologies (week 8 and 11)
  • Upcoming with Silver: Knight of Christmas (Historical)
  • Upcoming with Breathless Press: The Hero Sandwich co-written with Gayl Taylor (contemp/menage/cougar)
  • Decadent Publishing: My Vampire Cover Model (paranormal/contemp)
  • Upcoming with Decadent: The Blind Cupid (The Edge, short story/historical/BDSM) and My Highlander Cover Model (Time travel)
As you see, I like to mix it up and write in
multi-genres!

Like me and many writers out there you’re a busy woman with not enough hours in a day. Where do you pull your time to write from and do you have any tips for those writers out there struggling to allocate time.
Actually, I do have time to write (lucky me!) I no longer work, so I have time to indulge in my passion of writing romance whenever the mood strikes me! I do limit my time (writing/social networking etc) to between 9-3 while my teacher hubs is at work. I stay off the computer on weekends for the most part if I can. I think allocating time for yourself, your life and your writing is a fine balance, even more so with those juggling kids and a job/career. Set realistic goals and don’t stress yourself out.

Your new release sounds fantastic! Can you tell us a little about the book, and what triggered the idea?

I noticed all the pictures being posted on Facebook of hot cover model Paul Marron on a book tour with New York Times Best selling paranormal author, Kresley Cole. They were plugging the Book ‘Lothaire’ of which Paul is on the cover.

My mind began to plot. What if the cover model in question really was—a vampire? It was amazing how it all clicked into place. I had it written in no time! Pure fantasy, but lots of fun to write. and Cover Models are the best inspiration! This book is not a paranormal in the strictest sense. The heroine is not some kick-ass alpha heroine. She’s an ordinary girl who works at a department store who happens to attract the attention of a gorgeous cover model! Who is a vampire! (Who at heart, is a romantic and a gentleman to boot)

BLURB:

Life changed for Deanna Brooks the night she attended a book signing for her aunt’s best-selling paranormal romance series. There she met Burney ‘The Cover God’ Sheridan. The model for the series’ fictional vampire hero, Burn is beyond handsome and has an overabundance of Irish charm. He’s too good to be true.

Burn Sheridan, a man with scores of past lives, has a secret: he is a vampire. Meeting Deanna is agony because for the first time in over two hundred years, Burn experiences the rarest of vampiric needs—the mate-of-the-soul connection. Keeping people at a distance has been Burn’s existence for centuries, but Deanna makes his pledge of staying detached impossible.

Many obstacles lie ahead and the biggest of all may be Burn himself. Can Deanna and Burn overcome them and find lasting love?

How long did it take you to write My Vampire Cover Model?
Once I had the plot worked out, about three weeks. One thing I am also lucky in, so far I do not seem to suffer from writer’s block. *knock wood*

So, what’s next for Karyn Gerrard?
I have a LOT coming up with various publishers! November 9th, I release THE HERO SANDWICH, which I co-wrote with Gayl Taylor

November 24 is KNIGHT OF CHRISTMAS December is THE BLIND CUPID, January is BLACK HEART, and also on tap, MY HIGHLANDER COVER MODEL.

Also working on two sequels to The Blind Cupid!

Thanks for visiting, Karyn! It’s been wonderful having you here. Congratulations on your upcoming releases! I wish you many sales and great reviews.

Karyn Gerrard bio: Living in a small town in a corner of Ontario, Canada, I wile away my spare time writing, reviewing and reading romance. As long as I can avoid being hit by a runaway moose here in this wilderness paradise, I assume everything is golden. Originally from the east coast of Canada.
I’ve been happily married for a long time to my own hero. His encouragement keeps me moving forward.
